chuck todd is out with his new electoral map. chuck, it's important, big news. i asked becky if i can kid around with you for a second. i have to start with the granholm dating game video i just saw on youtube. have you seen this? i am scarred for life. >> i have back in the day. "dating game." didn't we have tom selleck, jennifer granholm. another politician had another dating game -- >> she looks like farrah faucet. i have to ask todd about that. that's why she was born in canada. if she was born in america, she might have been on the ticket in '08. >> a star back then and saw her at the dnc. saw you last night as i do every night with brian this is different. what are you talking about this morning, right? >> it is. but i do have one little complaint, joe. i believe you have been hosting this show with becky and andrew for a long time. not a short amount of time. becky is on my show almost every day. you know who the first person to invite me on your show? you, joe. >> you were with us not too long ago. >> i believe it was 2009. but that's okay. that's not to

we had chuck todd on the other day. polls haven't gotten much better really. and we had carter was up, carter was up, mondale was up, dukakis was up. you don't know the final poll is on november 6th. it that is the poll that counts. >> okay, i'm just telling you, mitt romney's campaign is equivalent of a football team that needs two scores and they're late in the fourth quarter and they can't afford to turn the ball over and they can't afford to -- >> that's fully your characterization of it. i think i could get dozens of people that would counter that. >> no, no, you you may do that but it's not right. >> okay, five minutes left, they need two scores. fine. >> so he needs to keep making progress. that's why they were attempting this message reset. so it is problematic from a time perspecti perspective. i don't know how much additional vote it's going to move. >> he's not going to get any of the 47%, but there's a lot of people on the other side that like what he said. >> that's what i just said. >> this is actually red meat for the producers that are on the o

when i heard the head of the teacher's union, the national teacher's union interviewed yesterday by chuck todd, she was saying part of the problem in chicago is the teachers were there and trying to fight for air conditioning for the students, they don't have air conditioning in august and it's hot to go. it does muddy the waters. what was it about? >> if the average pay for chicago teachers before the strike was $71,000, and you add their pension benefits and their health care costs it approximates $95,000, that goes over $100,000 a year for classroom teachers, and the allocation of money is important in this. they spend more money in chicago than they do in many of the places around the country that sure as hell get a lot hotter. i can't explain why air conditioning doesn't work good in chicago. works pretty damned good in florida. >> governor we'll talk more about education. you make other good points. we get our fiscal house in order as a country and then we don't do anything about education, and labor is still going to be cheaper for our corporations abroad sometimes, and it's not go

i think this is, i can still see chuck schumer pointing his finger at ben bernanke and telling him to get to work and get to work in the context of the calendar and monetary policy. >> i'm actually, i think, rick, we'd spend more time trying to figure out the impact of the policies on banks and on corporations. >> independently, yes. >> i think there's an intuitive sense that the fed can do these things, and that driving down interest rates makes sense. there's a theoretical proposition and what may be missing from what the fed is doing a long-term look at how it affects the system and the psychology of guys making key decisions so yeah, i think, rick, if he was in that position of responsibility might come to a similar conclusion, but i think he spent a little more time looking at the real world, i think that may be a failing of the fed. >> dinakar? >> i think all the central banks are just trying to give people some emotional comfort so they can get on and focus on other things and the reality is the next six months are going to be a tough period between elections, everything else g
